About GEMS
Greater Educational Milestones (GEMs) seeks to find, advocate and support highly motivated and qualified students of color from South Los Angeles, Watts, Inglewood, and Compton. Through outreach in these communities, GEMs identifies and brings awareness to the educational opportunities available to these students. GEMs serves as a resource to our Partner Schools while providing educational and/or financial support.
We have identified several feeder high schools in the areas in which we seek to service where our GEMs will matriculate as a high school option. Each of these feeder high schools are listed on California's 1000 worst school list (www.1000schools.org) with an average API that is far below California's standards.
We believe enough is enough! It is time for the community to wake up and take on the responsibility of ensuring that our students do not have to attend failing high schools any longer because of their socio-economic and/or regional limitations.
Through our GEMs Initiative, we will find highly gifted and talented students. We will be advocates and support these students as they seek to attend better quality high schools in an effort to ensure that they will have the required skills to compete on a global level.
